A macromolecular, highly resistant organic compound forming, or partly forming, the enclosing wall of fossilizable dinoflagellate cysts. It is comparable to sporopollenin and, like that substance, has a molecular structure as yet undetermined; but responding differerently to natural and artificial stains and having different fluorescence properties.
