?alatum Conrad, 1941, p.5, pl.1, fig.C ex Sarjeant, 1967b, p.247-248.  Holotype: Conrad, 1941, pl.1, fig.C.  Originally Palaeoperidinium (name not validly published), subsequently (and now) Microdinium?, thirdly Palaeoperidinium? (combination not validly published).  Lentin and Williams (1993, p.424) retained this species in Microdinium.  Questionable assignment: Sarjeant (1967b, p.248).  The name Palaeoperidinium alatum was not validly published in Conrad (1941) since the generic name Palaeoperidinium was not validly published until 1967.  Williams et al. (1998, p.399) accepted Sarjeant's (1967b) indirect reference to Conrad (1941), in which the name Palaeoperidinium alatum was first proposed, as indication of a type (I.C.B.N. Article 37.1).  Lentin and Williams (1976, p.109) also proposed this name as a new combination.  Age: Maastrichtian.
