Originally Gonyaulax (Appendix B), subsequently Gonyaulacysta, thirdly Hystrichogonyaulax, fourthly (and now) Rhynchodiniopsis. Taxonomic junior synonyms: Gonyaulacysta gottisii, according to Jan du Chêne et al. (1986a, p.48) and Jan du Chêne and Fauconnier (1986, p.55); Gonyaulacysta downiei and Gonyaulacysta (as Hystrichogonyaulax) canadensis, both according to Fisher and Riley (1980, p.320) and Kunz (1990, p.23). Age: Early Oxfordian.
