Citation: Gambierdiscoideae Fensome et al. 1993b. Diagnosis:Goniodomineans in which the posterior sulcal homologue is external to the sulcus, in which the ventral pore is lacking, and in which the motile cell is more or less strongly compressed anteriorly- posteriorly. Type genus: Gambierdiscus Adachi and Fukuyo 1979. Extant genera: Coolia Meunier 1919. (=Discodinium Dangeard 1938; taxonomic junior synonym according to Sournia, 1986, p.75) Gambierdiscus Adachi and Fukuyo 1979. Ostreopsis Schmidt 1902.
