subsp. areatum Marheinecke, 1992, p.44, pl.6, figs.8-11. Holotype: Marheinecke, 1992, pl.6, figs.9-10. Contrary to the opinion of Lentin and Williams (1993, p.284), Williams et al. (1998, p.272) considered this name to be validly published. Age: Early Maastrichtian. Parent: Hystrichodinium pulchrum
