Originally Xanthidium tubiferum var. palmatum, subsequently Xanthidium palmatum (Appendix A), thirdly Spiniferites palmatus, fourthly Cordosphaeridium palmatum, fifthly Hystrichosphaeridium palmatum (combination illegitimate), sixthly Hystrichosphaeridium duplum (name illegitimate). Nomenclatural senior synonym: Xanthidium tubiferum var. recurvatum (as Hystrichosphaeridium recurvatum), which has the same holotype.
