<I><B>NEMATOSPHAEROPSIS</B></I> [[Deflandre and Cookson, 1955]], p.268.&nbsp; Emendations: [[Williams and Downie, 1966c]], p.222; [[Wrenn, 1988]], p.137.&nbsp; Taxonomic junior synonyms: <I>[[Trabeculidium]]</I>, according to [[Stover and Williams, 1987|Stover and Williams (1987]], p.217) - however, [[Sarjeant, 1989|Sarjeant (1989]], p.93) retained <I>[[Trabeculidium]]</I>; <I>[[Pterococcus]]</I> Lohmann (an illegitimate name) and <I>Coccopterus</I>, by implication in [[Reid, 1974|Reid (1974]], p.592) and [[Fensome et al., 1993b|Fensome et al. (1993b]], p.93), who included the "type species", <I>[[Pterococcus labyrinthus|Pterococcus]]</I> (subsequently <I>[[Coccopterum]]</I>) <I>[[Pterococcus labyrinthus|labyrinthus]]</I>, in <I>Nematosphaeropsis</I>.&nbsp; This name was not validly published in [[Deflandre and Cookson, 1954|Deflandre and Cookson (1954]], p.1237), since these authors did not provided a description.&nbsp; Type: [[Deflandre and Cookson, 1955]], pl.8, fig.5, as <I>[[Nematosphaeropsis balcombiana]]</I>.
