<I><B>pseudofurcatus</B></I> ([[Klumpp, 1953]], p.388, pl.16, figs.12-14) [[Sarjeant, 1970]], p.76.&nbsp; Emendation: [[Sarjeant, 1981]], p.108-109, as <I>Spiniferites pseudofurcatus</I>.&nbsp; Holotype: [[Klumpp, 1953]], pl.16, figs.12,14; [[Sarjeant, 1981]], pl.3, figs.1-2; text-fig.2; [[Fensome et al., 1995]], figs.1-2 - p.1709.&nbsp; Originally <I>[[Hystrichokibotium pseudofurcatum|Hystrichokibotium]]</I>, subsequently <I>[[Hystrichosphaera]]</I> (combination illegitimate), thirdly (and now) <I>Spiniferites</I>.&nbsp; Taxonomic senior synonym: <I>[[Areoligera incerta|Areoligera]]</I> (as <I>[[Hystrichosphaera incerta|Hystrichosphaera]]</I>, now <I>[[Spiniferites incertus|Spiniferites]]</I>) <I>[[Areoligera incerta|incerta]]</I>, according to [[Morgenroth, 1966a|Morgenroth (1966a]], p.15) - however, [[Sarjeant, 1981|Sarjeant (1981]], p.108-109) retained <I>[[Hystrichokibotium pseudofurcatum|Hystrichokibotium]]</I> (as and now <I>Spiniferites</I>) <I>[[Hystrichokibotium pseudofurcatum|pseudofurcatum]]</I>.&nbsp; Taxonomic junior synonyms: <I>[[Hystrichosphaera buccina|Hystrichosphaera]]</I> (as <I>[[Spiniferites buccina|Spiniferites]]</I>) <I>[[Hystrichosphaera buccina|buccina]]</I>, according to [[Lentin and Williams, 1973|Lentin and Williams (1973]], p.126); <I>[[Hystrichosphaera tertiaria]]</I>, according to [[Gocht, 1969|Gocht (1969]], p.32) and [[Sarjeant, 1970|Sarjeant (1970]], p.76).&nbsp; [[May, 1980|May (1980]], p.64) considered <I>[[Achomosphaera alcicornu]]</I> to be a possible taxonomic junior synonym of this species.&nbsp; Age: Late Eocene.
