In dinophysiphycidean dinoflagellates, one of four episomal <I>[[Plate|plates]]</I> anterior to, and contiguous with, the <I>[[cingulum]]</I> and <I>[[sulcus]]</I>. The two small <I>[[ventral]]</I> epithecal plates are labelled E1 and E4 and the two large <I>[[lateral]]</I> epithecal plates are labelled E2 and E3.
