<B>Diagnosis:</B>Noctilucaleans in which the dominant life cycle stage comprises a <I>[[motile]]</I> cell whose width is extended significantly by <I>[[anterior]]</I>- <I>[[posterior]]</I> compression or by the presence of an equatorial, wing-like extension.  Neither a <I>[[tentacle]]</I> nor an <I>[[episomal]]</I> <I>[[extracellular dome]]</I>, are developed.<BR>
