"SPINIFERITES subgenus SPINIFERITES". Autonym. Now redundant. Type: Ehrenberg, 1837b, pl.1, fig.15, as Xanthidium ramosum, designated by Davey and Williams (1966a, p.32) as a lectotype of Hystrichosphaera ramosa.
