Originally Cooksoniella, subsequently (and now) Chatangiella. Taxonomic senior synonyms: Deflandrea (as and now Chatangiella) granulifera, according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova (1990, p.47) and Deflandrea (as and now Chatangiella) verrucosa, according to Yun Hyesu (1981, p.66) — however, Lebedeva in Ilyina et al. (1994, p.70) retained Cooksoniella (as and now Chatangiella) vnigrii. Wheeler and Sarjeant (1990, p.317) suggested that the spelling for the species epithet could be "vnigriorum".
