Originally Hystrichosphaera penicillata forma medusettiformis (name not validly published), subsequently (and now) Areoligera medusettiformis. Taxonomic senior synonym (at specific rank): Hystrichosphaera penicillata forma coronata (now Areoligera coronata), according to Morgenroth (1968, p.551) — however, Eaton (1976, p.245) retained Areoligera medusettiformis. The name Hystrichosphaera penicillata forma medusettiformis was not validly published in Wetzel (1933b), since the specific combination Hystrichosphaera penicillata was not validly published. Age: Senonian.
