Originally Gonyaulax (Appendix B), subsequently Gonyaulacysta, thirdly Gonyaulacysta?, fourthly Rhynchodiniopsis?, fifthly (and now) Leptodinium. Questionable assignment: Jan du Chêne et al. (1986a, p.211) as a problematic species. Jan du Chêne et al. (1986a, p.211) recommended that this name be restricted to the holotype. Age: Kimmeridgian.
