"subsp. <B><I>penicillatum</I></B>" ([[Ehrenberg, 1843b]], p.62 ex [[Ehrenberg, 1854]], pl.37, section 8, fig.3) [[Downie and Sarjeant, 1965]], p.174  Holotype: [[Ehrenberg, 1854]], pl.37, section 8, fig.3.&nbsp; <B>Combination not validly published</B>: specific name not validly published, basionym not fully referenced, and combination not intended.&nbsp; <B>NOW</B> <I>[[Systematophora penicillata]]</I>.&nbsp; Originally <I>[[Xanthidium penicillatum Appendix A|Xanthidium penicillatum]]</I> (Appendix A), subsequently <I>[[Hystrichosphaera penicillata]]</I> (combination not validly published), thirdly <I>[[Hystrichosphaeridium penicillatum]]</I>, fourthly <I>Ovum hispidum</I> subsp. <I>penicillatum</I> (combination not validly published), fifthly <I>[[Hystrichosphaeridium penicillatum|Hystrichosphaeridium]]</I>? <I>[[Hystrichosphaeridium penicillatum|penicillatum]]</I>, sixthly (and now) <I>[[Systematophora penicillata]]</I>.&nbsp; Taxonomic junior synonym: <I>[[Systematophora fasciculigera]]</I>, according to [[Sarjeant, 1980a|Sarjeant (1980a]], p.282).&nbsp; [[Downie and Sarjeant, 1965|Downie and Sarjeant (1965]], p.174) attributed this combination to [[Lohmann, 1904|Lohmann (1904]]); however, the combination apparently was not proposed in the latter publication.&nbsp; Age: Late Oxfordian.
