Citation: Noctilucaceae Saville-Kent, 1881. Diagnosis:Noctilucaleans in which the principal life-cycle stage comprises a highly inflated motile cell with a single flagellum and a prominent, flexible tentacle. There is no episomal extracellular dome. Type genus: Noctiluca Suriray in Lamarck, 1816. Extant genus: Noctiluca Suriray in Lamarck, 1816.
