Citation: Cachonellaceae Silva, 1980b. Diagnosis:Blastodinialeans in which there are two or more successive, independent vegetative cyst stages. The parasitic stage is attached and only initially, if at all, does it resemble a typical dinoflagellate. Sporogenesis is by palintomy. Type genus: Cachonella Rose and J. Cachon, 1952. Extant genera: Cachonella Rose and J. Cachon, 1952. (=Diplomorpha Rose and J. Cachon, 1951; homonym - Cachonella is substitute) ?Dissodinium Klebs in Pascher, 1916a. (=Diplodinium Klebs, 1912; nomenclatural junior synonym - see Fensome et al., 1993b, p.176) (=Sporodinium Gönnert, 1936; taxonomic junior synonym according to Swift, 1973)
