Evitt et al. (1977) recommended the use of the prefix "para" in conjunction with features of the cyst which had previously been described as "corresponding to", "reflected" or being the "equivalent of" certain features of the theca, such as cingulum, plate, sulcus, suture and tabulation (hence: paracingulum, paraplate, parasulcus, parasuture, paratabulation). In the present work, we found it simpler to avoid paraterminology, especially in diagnoses or descriptions of taxa containing both extant thecate members and fossil cyst members.
