Citation: Leptodiscaceae Taylor, 1976a. Diagnosis:Noctilucaleans in which the dominant life cycle stage comprises a motile cell whose width is extended significantly by anterior- posterior compression or by the presence of an equatorial, wing-like extension. Neither a tentacle nor an episomal extracellular dome, are developed. Type genus: Leptodiscus Hertwig, 1877. Extant genera: Abedinium Loeblich Jr. and Loeblich III, 1966. (=Leptophyllus J.
