<nowiki>*</nowiki><B><I>ovalis</I></B> (Kaufmann in [[Heer, 1865]], p.196-197, figs.107a-b) [[Lorenz, 1902]], p.46.&nbsp; Holotype: not designated.&nbsp; Neotype: Wendler et al., 2013, fig.9, no.2; fig.17.&nbsp; Emendation: Wendler et al., 2013, p.1101-1102 as a "Diagnosis", implied to be an emendation on their p.1104.&nbsp; Originally <I>[[Lagena ovalis Appendix A|Lagena]]</I> (Appendix A), subsequently (and now) <I>Pithonella</I>, thirdly <I>[[Fissurina ovalis Appendix A|Fissurina]]</I> (Appendix A).&nbsp; [[Colom, 1955|Colom (1955]], p.121) retained this species in <I>Pithonella</I>.&nbsp; Taxonomic junior synonym: <I>[[Lagena sphaerica Appendix A|Lagena]]</I> (now <I>[[Pithonella sphaerica|Pithonella]]</I>) <I>[[Lagena sphaerica Appendix A|sphaerica]]</I>, according to [[Lorenz, 1902|Lorenz (1902]], p.46) - however, [[Bonet, 1956|Bonet (1956]], p.450) and Wendler et al. (2013, p.1098) retained <I>[[Lagena sphaerica Appendix A|Lagena]]</I> (as <I>[[Stomiosphaera sphaerica|Stomiosphaera]]</I>) <I>[[Lagena sphaerica Appendix A|sphaerica]]</I>.&nbsp; Wendler et al. (2013, p.1101) cited this combination as new.&nbsp; Age: late Cenomanian-Turonian (based on later studies by Bolli - P. Hochuli, personal communication).
