<B><I>bentorii</I></B> ([[Rossignol, 1964]], p.84-85, pl.1, figs.3,3bis,5-8; pl.3, figs.1-3; text-figs.A-F) [[Wall and Dale, 1970]], p.47-48.&nbsp; Holotype: [[Rossignol, 1964]], pl.1, figs.3,7-8.&nbsp; Originally <I>[[Hystrichosphaera bentorii|Hystrichosphaera]]</I>, subsequently (and now) <I>Spiniferites</I>.&nbsp; Taxonomic junior synonyms: <I>[[Hystrichosphaera nodosa|Hystrichosphaera]]</I> (as <I>[[Spiniferites nodosus|Spiniferites]]</I>) <I>[[Hystrichosphaera nodosa|nodosa]]</I>, according to [[Reid, 1974|Reid (1974]], p.598) and [[Harland, 1977b|Harland (1977b]], p.98-99) - however, [[Lentin and Williams, 1981|Lentin and Williams (1981]], p.264) retained <I>[[Hystrichosphaera nodosa|Hystrichosphaera]]</I> (as <I>[[Spiniferites nodosus|Spiniferites]]</I>) <I>[[Hystrichosphaera nodosa|nodosa]]</I>; and <I>[[Leptodinium churchillii]]</I>, according to [[Harland, 1977b|Harland (1977b]], p.98-99) - however, the latter is now generally considered a taxonomic junior synonym of <I>[[Hystrichosphaera nodosa|Hystrichosphaera]]</I> (now <I>[[Spiniferites nodosus|Spiniferites]]</I>) <I>[[Hystrichosphaera nodosa|nodosa]]</I>.&nbsp; The name <I>[[Hystrichosphaera bentorii]]</I> was not validly published in [[Rossignol, 1961|Rossignol (1961]], pl.1, figs.7-8), who did not provide a description, and in [[Rossignol, 1962|Rossignol (1962]], p.132), who did not illustrate this taxon or provide a reference to an illustration.&nbsp; Motile equivalent: <I>[[Gonyaulax digitale Appendix B|Gonyaulax digitalis]]</I> ([[Pouchet, 1883]]) [[Kofoid, 1911]], according to [[Wall and Dale, 1967|Wall and Dale (1967]], p.352) and [[Dodge, 1989|Dodge (1989]], p.283).&nbsp; Age: Pleistocene-Holocene.
