Holotype: Gerlach, 1961, pl.28, fig.14; Sarjeant, 1984b, pl.1, fig.2; pl.4, fig.2; Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, pl.7, figs.4–5. NOW Enneadocysta. Originally Baltisphaeridium, subsequently Cleistosphaeridium, thirdly Areosphaeridium?, fourthly Areosphaeridium, fifthly (and now) Enneadocysta. Taxonomic junior synonym: Areosphaeridium (now Enneadocysta) multicornutum, according to Sarjeant (1984b, p.83–84) — however, Stover and Williams (1995, p.112) retained Areosphaeridium (as Enneadocysta) multicornutum. Age: middle Oligocene.
