Holotype: Deflandre, 1937b, pl.16 (al. pl.13), fig.6; Fauconnier and Masure, 2004, pl.23, figs.1-3. NOW Downiesphaeridium. Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Cleistosphaeridium, fourthly (and now) Downiesphaeridium. This combination was not validly published in Downie and Sarjeant (1963, p.91), since these authors did not fully reference the basionym. Age: Late Senonian.
