Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Hystrichosphaera, thirdly Spiniferites. Taxonomic senior synonym: Hystrichosphaeridium (as Achomosphaera) alcicornu, according to Sarjeant (1983, p.100). Age: mid Oligocene-Late Miocene.
